Hi! I’m Ruth

I’m looking forward to meeting you, either for in-person counselling and psychotherapy in King’s Lynn or online.

I am a qualified, experienced and sensitive therapist, and have been in private practice since 2020. Before I was a therapist I trained as a business and personal coach and I also ran a nature-based retreat/glamping centre in France. My early career journey was in corporate HR and graduate recruitment & development and I have an archaeology undergrad degree, which comes in surprisingly handy in therapy! I love to dig and discover and I find people endlessly fascinating.

As a psychotherapist I have a relational frame and training, which means I pay attention to what happens in the relationship between us to give me clues about what life is like for you out in the world as well as when you interact with others. I am likely to want to hear about your early life experiences to help us understand how this might be affecting you in the here and now. I also use an integrative approach, meaning I will adapt our therapy plan according to your expressed needs and the material that you bring.

My core training is Transactional Analysis which is a theory of communication and personality and I incorporate elements of somatic therapies, embodiment and holistic approaches. I consider you as a whole and complex person, and there is space for your own cultural and spiritual frame. I am neuro-affirmative and welcome people of any ethnic heritage. People of any sexual orientation and gender expression are also welcome.

I hold a Diploma in TA Counselling with Social Justice (equivalent to level 6) and I am a registered member of the BACP, fully insured and in regular supervision. I have completed a four-year, level 7 psychotherapy training and am currently working towards my CTA (Certified Transactional Analyst) qualification which leads to UKCP registration.

I qualified as a business and personal coach with Barefoot Coaching Ltd. (an ICF accredited training) in 2008.

I’m currently studying at MSc level at the University of Warwick (online) in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health (2024-2026) and have achieved a Post-Graduate diploma in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health. (2025)

I value respect, flexibility and curiosity and I believe that people can change. I tend to work long-term most successfully, some clients stay in their therapy for years, but you can get a huge amount from a short piece of counselling work. I don’t have any requirement how long you stay, although I would say at least six sessions is the best way to see some benefit.

I have a deep personal practice of mindfulness, movement and ecological/nature connection and I work outdoors with coaching and therapy clients as well as in a traditional way in the room. You can find out more about my Ecological practice and outdoor therapy in West and North Norfolk in local woodlands and along our wild and beautiful coast via Brightraventherapy.com (coming soon) or just ask me.
